“Happiness is not desired or acquired; happiness is allowed to arise. Happiness is never stiff; it is as flexible as water. If at first it does not succeed . . .it will try and try and try again until it does. Such is the resilient nature of happiness.”

The Sacred Money vs The Sacred Earth Story

14 May

Which do you live by?

The Sacred Money Story:
Time is money. Money is wealth. Those who make money are society’s wealth creators. Poverty is a sign of personal failure. Consumption is the path to happiness. Individualistic greed and competition are human virtues that the invisible hand of the free market directs to ends that create opportunity and prosperity for all. Those who would deprive society’s wealth creators of the fruits of their labor engage in envy—a mortal sin. Maximizing financial gain is a moral and legal duty of business—indeed of each individual. Earth is a rock in space useful as source of free resources and a convenient waste dump.

The Sacred Earth Story:
Time is life. Life is the most precious of the many forms of wealth. As living beings, we survive and prosper only as contributing members of a living Earth Community evolving toward ever-greater beauty, complexity, self-awareness, and possibility. Making time for life—to experience and serve—is the path to happiness and well-being. Equality, community, and connection to nature are essential foundations of human health and happiness. It is our human nature to care and to share. Earth is our sacred mother. As she loves and nurtures us, we must love and care for her. The institutions of business, government, and civil society exist for only one purpose—to serve as vehicles through which we cultivate and express our true nature and create our means of living in service to the Earth Community to which we all belong.

For all Mothers on Mothers Day with Love.

12 May

If there will be no respect for the woman, there shall be no peace on this Earth.

The mother who gave us life, who gave us birth, who gave us existence, who took care of us in those days when we were totally helpless—we hire that mother for a few dollars for our sensory satisfaction.

I am a worshipper of the woman, Bhagwati. I care for Bhagwati very much. I worship her in my heart. She is with me and the Divine Mother protects me all the time. I know my faults and my follies and I know my strong protection. That protection is stronger than anything I have realized in my whole life. Therefore I feel like just lodging a great protest with the world today. Don’t talk about peace, don’t talk about spirituality, don’t give us a message of Guru Nanak, Jesus Christ, Buddha, Rama, or Krishna. We have heard that. Give us something so that we may stop exploiting our own mother. Give us something so that we may tune into the cosmos to be worthy of our mother. Give us something so that we can relate to this creative power of the God which is the mother. Give us something by which we can honestly draw in our heart the image of Grace of the Mother. And, oh Lord of Lords of the time, if you have created this world, create those environments where everybody’s mother, sister, and every woman on this planet can live with grace and there shall be no circumstances in which she has to sell her beauty, sell her body, sell her being, or sell her consciousness to exist on this planet.

I do not know whether my tiny and feeble voice can be heard, but I am pretty sure I will shout it from those mountains. I will never rest on that planet on which woman is still being exploited.

With these words, and with this prayer of mine, on this most beautiful day which I relate to, it is a day to be reminded of my own source of energy. I bow to every mother and I also ask the would-be mothers to be graceful. And I ask every man who would seek peace to realize that peace doesn’t come by protests and rallies. Peace comes by peaceful actions, and so long as those born of the mother will not learn to respect the woman, there shall not be any peace on this planet. The day the woman will not be exploited on this planet, there shall be peace on this Earth.

Creating Problems

8 May

“Problem” means that you are dwelling on a situation mentally without there being a true intention or possibility of taking action now and that you are unconsciously making it part of your sense of self. You become so overwhelmed with your life situation that you loose your sense of life, of Being. Or you are carrying in your mind the insane burden of a hundred things that you will or may have to do in the future instead of focusing your attention on the one thing that you can do now.

When you create a problem, you create pain. All it takes is a simple choice, a simple decision: no matter what happens, I will create no more pain for myself. I will create no more problems. Although it is a simple choice, it is also very radical. You won’t make that choice unless you are truly fed up with suffering, unless you have truly had enough. And you won’t be able to go through with it unless you access the power of Now. If you create no more pain for yourself, then you create no more pain for others. You also no longer contaminate the beautiful Earth, your inner space, and the collective human psyche with the negativity of problem making.

Advice From a Tree

7 May

Stand tall and proud
Sink your roots deep into the earth
Be content with your natural beauty
Go out on a limb
Drink plenty of water
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view

Tonight I set off a Khom Loy Thai lantern into the sky. I wished for the end of suffering, especially for the animals who do not have voices. As I was doing this, there was a man singing Imagine by John Lennon echoing over the lake. What a beautiful coincidence. I hope all the people who believed in this songs lyrics in the 60’s are still around and still believing.

Best Thailand Moments in Pictures

2 May

After finishing up a month of traveling through Thailand, I wanted to share my favourite moments with you. Thailand is a beautiful country, extremely easy to travel and has adopted “western standards” everywhere – which can be a good and a bad thing. I’m off to Laos. xo

Love it or hate it, Bangkok is a dynamic, energetic, vice & virtue city. These cute VW vans were converted into street side bars.

Taking the train from Bangkok to the south is a beautiful way to see the Thai countryside. First stop, Ko Lanta. This sleepy island has lots of open space with expansive beaches and a few hippy enclaves. Go now because it is changing fast, just like all the other islands in Thailand.

Lanta Animal Welfare is a heartwarming day trip. Walk a dog or two, tour around the facilities and find out how you can get involved. Stay longer and volunteer. Wonderful project and fully deserving of donations and assistance.

Old Town Ko Lanta is a great day trip via rented scooter. Enjoy lunch while overlooking stunning islands in the distance.

Take a bus or flight from Ko Lanta to Ko Samui. This is a beautiful island with white sand beaches, fantastic resorts and prices to match. If all inclusive packages and big hotel chains don’t bother you, this is a good place to go for a week vacation.

Ko Pha Ngan was the island I connected with most. If you want yoga, Muai Thai, beaches, good food, good weather, affordable accommodation and places to explore, this is my pick.

Don’t forget about the north of Thailand. It is quieter than the beaches and has loads of culture and wilderness. Chaing Mai is a gem.

Beautiful temple Chaing Mai.

If you have time, take a Thai Massage course. It is a beautiful gift to take home.

Keep posted for more travel and yoga updates.
